History
Introduced in November 1974, the Charmant was a conventional compact sedan built on Toyota Corolla (E20/E70) platforms and fitted exclusively with Toyota inline-four engines ranging from 1.2 to 1.6 litres — an open expression of Daihatsu's deepening cooperation with Toyota.
Two generations were produced (1974–1981 and 1981–1987), with the Charmant giving Daihatsu a credible conventional family car alongside its specialist kei and compact offerings. Production ended in late 1987.
