History

The Xsara Picasso launched in 1999 as a five-seat compact MPV on the same platform as the Xsara hatchback, with the 'Picasso' suffix beginning Citroën's long-running practice of naming MPV variants after artists. Its tall cabin, wide centre console storage, and three individual rear seats made it a benchmark compact people-carrier in Europe.

A significant facelift arrived in 2004, updating the interior and exterior. The Xsara Picasso remained in production until 2012, by which point it had been supplanted in the lineup by the C4 Picasso (five-seat) and C4 Grand Picasso (seven-seat).
