History
The BX replaced the GS/GSA as Citroën's mid-range family car, launched in 1982 with styling by Bertone (Marcello Gandini's studio) and a body making extensive use of plastic panels to save weight. It carried the full Citroën hydropneumatic suspension system on a smaller car than the CX, bringing the self-levelling ride to a broader market.
Diesel variants — including a turbodiesel — proved especially popular in the European fleet market, and the estate Break variant added further practicality. A mid-life facelift arrived in 1986. Total production across the hatchback and Break over 12 years reached 2,315,739 units, making the BX one of Citroën's best-selling models ever.
