History
The Checker Aerobus was a factory-built stretch of the Marathon, produced from 1962 to 1977 as a high-capacity shuttle. With as many as eight side doors and four rows of seating, the longest twelve-passenger version rode a 189-inch wheelbase, and it was aimed squarely at airport, hotel, and resort transport duty — the role its name suggests.
Offered in both sedan and wagon configurations, the Aerobus took Checker's reputation for durability to an extreme, hauling passengers and luggage in fleet service. A total of about 3,568 Aerobuses of all versions were built before the model was retired in 1977, well ahead of the standard Marathon's 1982 finale.
