History

The BYD Han went on sale in China in June 2020 as BYD's full-size E-segment flagship sedan, and notably became the first production vehicle to use BYD's proprietary Blade battery — a structural LFP cell pack that passed the nail-penetration test without fire. The Han EV's dual-motor AWD variant claimed a 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and an NEDC range of 605 km (376 mi) in base form.

Available in both battery-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (DM) variants, the Han consistently sold more than 10,000 units per month following its July 2020 market launch and accumulated more than 150,000 units by early 2022. It positioned BYD squarely in the premium Chinese sedan market against the Tesla Model 3/S and domestic rivals. A Han L extended version debuted in early 2025 as an upmarket evolution.
