History

The BYD F3 entered production on 16 April 2005 as the company's very first mass-produced passenger car, priced around CN¥73,000 (roughly US$10,000). Its proportions were widely noted as resembling a Toyota Corolla, and the low price drove enormous first-year demand — more than 63,000 units sold in 2005 alone.

Over its fourteen-year life the F3 was updated several times, accumulating cumulative sales well over one million in China. It was discontinued in 2019 as BYD's focus shifted entirely toward electrified models; a plug-in hybrid variant, the F3DM, was spun off as its own separate model.
