BYD Dolphin History

Previewed as a pre-production prototype at Auto Shanghai in April 2021, the BYD Dolphin entered production and went on sale in China in August 2021 as the first Ocean Series model and the first BYD to use the new corporate logo. It is built on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 with a blade battery and features a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen, targeting younger urban buyers.

From 2023 the Dolphin was exported to Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia with revised dimensions to meet regional crash regulations, placing it in the compact C-segment for those markets. It became one of the best-selling electric cars in multiple countries, including Australia, and was the first Ocean Series car to reach global scale.
