Brilliance Jinbei Haise History

The first CKD-assembled Jinbei Haise rolled off the Shenyang Jinbei line on 3 November 1991, built on Toyota HiAce technology through a Sino-Japanese joint venture arrangement. The Haise (海狮 — 'sea lion') became the standard workhorse van of China through the 1990s and 2000s, with the 10,000th unit produced by 1997, the 200,000th on 17 July 1999, and the one-millionth on 27 October 2010. At its peak the Jinbei brand held over 75 % of China's domestic mid-to-large commercial vehicle market.

Multiple generations followed the Toyota HiAce platform cadence: Generation V arrived in 2006 adopting the then-current HiAce H200 architecture. In December 2017 Brilliance formed the Renault Brilliance Jinbei (RBJ) joint venture — Brilliance 51 %, Renault 49 % — to continue producing and expanding the commercial-van line. Jinbei-branded vans continue in production through RBJ.
