Wiesmann GT MF5 History
History
Unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the GT MF5 was Wiesmann's most ambitious car: a hand-built GT coupe powered by the BMW S85 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V10 — the same engine used in the E60 M5 and E63 M6 — producing 507 hp and delivering a 311 km/h top speed. The first 56 coupe examples carried the V10 before production shifted to the BMW S63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 (547 hp) for the final 22 cars.
The MF5 Roadster debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt IAA (IAA), offering the V10 experience in open-top form; planned volume was just 55 units, but only 43 were completed before the company's financial difficulties halted production. Together, coupe and roadster combined for fewer than 200 total examples — a rarity that has made well-preserved MF5s highly sought after on the collector market.
The MF5 represented the pinnacle of the original Wiesmann era: a car that combined naturally aspirated V10 soundtrack with retro-inspired coachbuilt bodywork in a package no mainstream manufacturer was offering. Its discontinuation alongside the broader company collapse in 2013–14 ended one of Germany's most distinctive low-volume sports car stories.
