History
The Phaeton was Volkswagen's attempt at a true luxury flagship, sharing engineering with the Bentley Continental and offering a W12 engine and elaborate engineering.
Sold in the US only briefly (2004–2006), it struggled to justify a luxury price under the mainstream VW badge and was withdrawn from the US market. // Source: Wikipedia "Volkswagen Phaeton" — US sales 2004–2006 (V8 and W12 only); North American sales ended after MY2006.
