Launched for 1998 on the front-wheel-drive Golf platform, the 'New Beetle' revived the Beetle's silhouette as a modern, water-cooled, front-engined car — a nostalgic hit complete with a dashboard bud vase.
A second-generation car (simply 'Beetle', 2012–2019) made the styling lower and sportier and added a turbocharged engine, before Volkswagen retired the nameplate again in 2019. Source note: Wikipedia "Volkswagen Beetle (A5)" — unveiled Apr 2011 (dropping 'New') as a 2012 model.

First generation (A4) · New Beetle
The original retro revival on the Mk4 Golf platform, with the famous rounded one-box silhouette and dash bud vase.
