History

The Passat began in 1974 and reached the US first as the 'Dasher' (B1) and 'Quantum' (B2) before adopting the Passat name; later front-drive and available all-wheel-drive (4Motion) generations made it Volkswagen's core mid-size car.

For 2012 Volkswagen built a larger, US-specific Passat in Chattanooga, Tennessee, tailored to American family-sedan tastes, before North American production ended in 2022. // Source: Wikipedia "Volkswagen Passat" — US Dasher (B1) from 1974, Quantum (B2) 1982–88, Passat name from 1990; Chattanooga-built NMS from MY2012; US production ended 2022.
