The ID.4 reached the US for 2021 as Volkswagen's first volume electric vehicle, a compact crossover built on the brand's dedicated MEB battery-electric platform.
Initially imported, US-market ID.4s were later built in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with rear- and all-wheel-drive versions. Source note: VW Newsroom / electrek — US ID.4 from MY2021 (German-built 2021–22); Chattanooga production began July 2022 (MY2023).
