Unic Type H1 History
History
For the 1929 model year Unic introduced its first straight-eight, the Type H1, fitted with a 2½-litre (approximately 2500 cc) overhead-valve engine and four forward speeds. Double cantilever rear suspension of unequal lengths was a further technical feature.
The straight-eight was an aspirational move upmarket and placed Unic alongside other French makers offering larger, smoother multi-cylinder cars to well-heeled buyers. An evolved variant, the Type H3 with a 2646 cc eight-cylinder, followed for 1933. Sales remained modest in the Depression market.
