History

The Cybertruck is Tesla's electric pickup, defined by its radical, faceted design and a body of bare 300-series stainless steel that is laser-cut and folded rather than stamped and painted. It was unveiled in Los Angeles in November 2019 in a presentation made infamous when a steel ball thrown at its 'armor glass' windows shattered them on stage.

After years of delays, the first customer deliveries took place in late November 2023, built at Gigafactory Texas near Austin. The top tri-motor all-wheel-drive version, marketed as the 'Cyberbeast,' makes around 845 hp and accelerates to 60 mph in roughly 2.6 seconds.

Despite enormous early hype and a long reservation list, the Cybertruck's sales fell short of analyst expectations, and it drew criticism over build quality, recalls, and its uncompromising styling.
