When Antonio Lago took control of the Suresnes factory in 1936, his chief designer Walter Becchia developed a range of sporting models around a 3,996 cc straight-six engine. The flagship was badged Lago Spéciale (or SS), fitted with triple carburettors and producing genuine performance from what was still a road car.
Coachbuilder Figoni et Falaschi clothed several T150C rolling chassis in dramatic aerodynamic teardrop bodywork, making the cars among the most visually arresting machines shown at pre-war Paris Salons. The racing-derived T150C competed at Le Mans and in road races across Europe from 1936 to 1939.
Production was halted by the outbreak of World War II in 1939. The pre-war T150C and Lago-SS cars are today among the most valuable Talbot-Lagos, with concours-restored examples regularly exceeding several million dollars at auction.
