TagAZ Doninvest Assol History

When the Taganrog plant opened in 1998, its launch vehicle was the Doninvest Assol, a licensed version of the Daewoo Lanos produced under agreement with the South Korean automaker. It was assembled from semi-knocked-down (SKD) kits and marketed under the plant's Doninvest brand rather than the Daewoo name.

The Assol was a conventional front-wheel-drive compact sedan aimed at the budget Russian market. Production ran alongside sister Doninvest models (Orion and Kondor) until the Doninvest brand was phased out around 2002 as TagAZ shifted its strategy toward Hyundai assembly and later its own sub-brands.
