History
Introduced in 1993 as the centrepiece of SsangYong's 1991 collaboration with Daimler-Benz, the Musso was styled by British designer Ken Greenley and powered by Mercedes-Benz inline-six and inline-four petrol and diesel engines (the M104, M111, OM601, OM602 families), giving it a legitimately Mercedes-derived character uncommon at its price point.
The Musso won the Auto Design Award at the 1994 Birmingham Motor Show and the 1994 Pharaohs Rally, raising SsangYong's international profile. A facelifted version arrived in 1998.
A pickup variant, the Musso Sports (P100 series), was produced from 2002 to 2005, extending the platform into a dual-cab truck body. The original Musso SUV was discontinued around 2005–2006 when Daewoo and then SAIC ownership led to a rationalised range. The Musso nameplate was revived in 2018 as a new-generation pickup truck under Mahindra.
