Reliant Scimitar GT History

The Scimitar GT (SE4) launched in 1964 as a sleek fibreglass-bodied 2+2 coupe styled by Ogle Design, replacing the Sabre. Early cars used a 2.6-litre Ford straight-six; from 1966 the line switched to Ford's Essex V6 (in 3.0-litre and 2.5-litre forms).

Just over 1,000 GT coupes were built across the SE4 series through 1970. Well-engineered and quick for its day, it built the Scimitar's reputation as Reliant's serious sporting product and set the stage for the far more influential GTE sporting estate.
