History

Unveiled on 1 March 2017 and on sale that summer, the Velar slotted between the Evoque and the Sport as a design-led mid-size luxury SUV, defined by its clean, flush-surfaced styling and minimalist twin-touchscreen interior. It rides on JLR's D7a aluminium-intensive platform, which it shares with the Jaguar F-Pace.

Its name revives 'Velar', the codename used to disguise the very first pre-production Range Rovers in 1969 (from the Latin velare, to veil) — a deliberate nod to the brand's origins. In 2018 the Velar was named 'World's Most Beautiful Car' at the World Car Awards, affirming its position as the design-led member of the Range Rover family.

A significant refresh arrived for 2024, updating the exterior styling to align with the rest of the modern Range Rover family and introducing an 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen running JLR's Pivi Pro infotainment system.
