The Evoque grew out of the Land Rover LRX concept unveiled at the 2008 Detroit auto show and styled under design director Gerry McGovern. Launched in 2011 as the smallest, most fashion-driven Range Rover, it was offered as a distinctive three-door 'coupe', a five-door, and — uniquely in the segment — a two-door convertible, and quickly became one of the brand's best-sellers.
The first-generation L538 ran from 2011 to 2018. The second-generation L551 arrived for 2019 on a new platform as a five-door only, with mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid options, continuing the Evoque as Range Rover's compact entry point.
