History

Revealed as a concept at the 2004 North American International Auto Show and launched for 2005, the Range Rover Sport slotted below the flagship as a more driver-focused luxury SUV. The first-generation L320 used an integrated body-frame structure derived from the Discovery 3, blending on-road dynamics with the brand's off-road hardware.

The second-generation L494 (2013–2022) adopted an all-aluminium monocoque and spawned the high-performance SVR, with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 (around 550 hp, rising to 575 hp after a 2018 update). The current third-generation L461 arrived in 2022 on JLR's MLA-Flex platform with electrified powertrains.
