Puma Puma GTI / P-018 History

In 1980 Puma introduced the GTI as a restyled coupe on the VW Brasília platform, powered by the 1.6-litre rear-mounted VW flat-four. The GTI replaced the aging GTE coupe and is distinguished by its slightly more modern bodywork. A closely related variant, the P-018 (sometimes listed as a separate model), used the same Brasília underpinnings and ran concurrently.

The GTI was made in limited numbers — approximately 610 examples — before production wound down following Puma's 1985 bankruptcy and the subsequent transfer of production rights to Araucária Veículos and Alfa Metais. The VW-based coupes were the last direct descendants of Malzoni's original DKW racer.
