Protos Type C History

After the First World War, Protos abandoned its pre-war model range and focused all production on a single, rationalized offering: the Type C. Powered by a 2,596 cc four-cylinder engine producing 30 hp at 1,800 rpm, it was a far more modest car than the pre-war six-cylinder flagships.

The strategy reflected the economic realities of Germany's post-war reconstruction — reduced raw materials, collapsed export markets, and a clientele less able to afford pre-war luxury — while keeping the Protos name alive. Approximately 10,000 Type C and C1 cars were built in total across the postwar production run.
