Apperson Four History

From its first cars Apperson built large, conventional four-cylinder runabouts and touring cars — solidly engineered machines aimed at the carriage-trade buyer, sold on durability and finish rather than novelty. These fours were the volume product that kept the Kokomo works running and provided the chassis from which the sporting Jack Rabbit speedster was developed.

By the early 1910s Apperson listed both four- and six-cylinder models; a roughly 32-hp four and a 33-hp six appear in the 1913 catalogue. The fours carried the brand through its strongest commercial years in the mid-1910s before Apperson, like much of the industry, shifted its emphasis to the smoother, more fashionable V-8.
