Pontiac Solstice History

The Solstice was a back-to-basics two-seat roadster championed by GM's Bob Lutz and styled by Franz von Holzhausen on the new rear-drive Kappa platform, aimed at a sub-$20,000 starting price. It reached production for 2006 from a 2002 concept.

The base car used a 177-hp 2.4-liter four; the GXP added a 260-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter. A targa-roofed coupe arrived for 2009, but only 1,266 coupes were built before the line ended with Pontiac's wind-down. Total Solstice production was 65,724.
