History

The Catalina became a standalone full-size Pontiac for 1959 as the line's more affordable big car, below the Star Chief and Bonneville.

In the early 1960s, lightweight Catalinas with the legendary Super Duty 421 V8 were factory-backed drag-racing weapons. The full-size Catalina ran through 1981 before the nameplate was retired.
