Plymouth Volaré History

The Volaré replaced the Valiant for 1976 as Plymouth's compact on Chrysler's new rear-drive F-body, offered as a sedan, coupe, and wagon (the Road Runner name lived on as a Volaré trim package through 1980). It and its Dodge Aspen twin were named Motor Trend Car of the Year for 1976.

Early Volarés were dogged by quality problems — notably premature front-fender rust and driveability issues that prompted recalls — denting the model's reputation despite strong initial sales. It ran through 1980.
