Plymouth GTX History

Introduced for 1967 on the Belvedere/Satellite B-body, the GTX was Plymouth's 'gentleman's muscle car' — performance with added luxury trim, sitting above the bare-bones Road Runner that arrived a year later.

It came standard with the 375-hp 440 Super Commando V8, with the 425-hp 426 Hemi optional. Distinguished by a blacked-out grille, hood scoops, racing stripes, and a chrome pop-open fuel cap, about 44,178 were built across five model years at Detroit's Lynch Road Assembly. After 1971, a 440-equipped Road Runner carried the 'GTX' badge as a sub-designation through 1974.
