Plymouth Horizon History

The Horizon launched for 1978 as one of the first US-built front-wheel-drive subcompacts — a five-door economy hatchback (twin to the Dodge Omni) that arrived just as fuel prices spiked. It was an important volume and image car for a cash-strapped Chrysler.

The sporty TC3/Turismo two-door coupe variants gave the platform a youthful edge. The Horizon soldiered on with few changes through 1990, a long-lived workhorse of Chrysler's late-1970s rescue era.
