History
The Peugeot 504, unveiled in late 1968 and styled by Aldo Brovarone of Pininfarina, was a significant step forward for the brand — a refined, comfortable rear-drive saloon that earned the 1969 European Car of the Year award over formidable competition. The sporty coupe and cabriolet variants were designed separately within Pininfarina.
Over its European production run (1968–1983) more than three million 504s were built, and the model's combination of long suspension travel, high ground clearance, and diesel-engine durability made it the dominant vehicle across sub-Saharan Africa, where assembly continued in Nigeria until 2006 — making the 504 Peugeot's longest-running model globally.
