History
The Peugeot 206 launched in May 1998 as the successor to the legendary 205, and it went on to surpass it in every commercial measure. From 2001 to 2003 it was Europe's best-selling car, and with 8,358,217 units sold by 2012 it remains the best-selling Peugeot of all time.
The lineup diversified well beyond the hatchback: the 206 CC (2000) was an affordable folding-hardtop cabriolet, the 206 SW (2001) an estate, and multiple body styles kept the car relevant across markets well into the 2010s — with licensed production continuing in Iran into the 2020s.
