Peugeot 406 History

Launched in 1995 as the replacement for the 405, the Peugeot 406 was a conventional but well-executed family car available as a saloon and estate. Its real distinction came in 1997 with the introduction of the 406 Coupé — a two-door design conceived and built entirely by Pininfarina, with crisp, enduring styling and an available 3.0-litre V6.

The 406 saloon and estate sold solidly throughout the late 1990s, particularly popular with the taxicab trade in France. It was replaced by the 407 in 2004, though the Coupé had ceased production the same year.
