History
Designed by Pininfarina and launched in 1987, the Peugeot 405 won the European Car of the Year award for 1988, competing strongly against the Ford Sierra and Vauxhall Cavalier with a combination of elegant styling, capable chassis, and a wide engine range including a punchy turbodiesel.
A turbocharged MI 16 performance variant produced around 147 hp from a 1.9-litre four, and the 405 Saloon / Break (estate) were both well received for ride quality. Production ran until 1997 in Europe.
