History

The Insignia arrived in October 2008 as Opel's replacement for the Vectra, debuting at the British Motor Show in July 2008. Its refined styling and well-equipped cabin won it the European Car of the Year award for 2009 — the first Opel to win that honour since the Kadett E in 1984.

A second generation Insignia B (Grand Sport) followed in 2017, growing in size and adding diesel hybrid and high-performance GSi variants. Opel ended Insignia production in 2022, withdrawing from the traditional large family car segment as European buyers shifted to SUVs and crossovers.
