OM OMV Alcyone History

Shown on the motor-show circuit in 1934 under the designation OMV (also called the Alcyone), this was the last passenger-car project Officine Meccaniche attempted. It featured modern engineering for its era — hydraulic brakes, a full synchromesh transmission, and an engine with overhead exhaust valves — representing a significant step beyond the side-valve Superba family.

By 1934 Fiat had already taken control of OM (1933), and the Alcyone never entered production. OM was redirected entirely to commercial vehicles and eventually became an Iveco truck brand. The Alcyone stands as an intriguing footnote: a modern Italian saloon that existed briefly as a prototype before the marque's automotive ambitions were extinguished.
