Ola Electric S1 Pro History
History
The S1 Pro was unveiled in August 2021 and deliveries began in Bengaluru and Chennai in December 2021, making it the first mass-produced product from Ola Electric's newly completed Future Factory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. The factory, built on a 500-acre site, was conceived as the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility, with an annual capacity that the company projected to reach millions of units. The S1 Pro launched alongside the base S1 at ₹1,49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi, including FAME II subsidy), with a 4 kWh battery pack, a 5.5 kW motor, 181 km claimed range, and a top speed of 115 km/h.
Like its cheaper sibling the S1, the Pro ran a 7-inch TFT touchscreen running Ola's proprietary MoveOS, enabling over-the-air software updates, onboard navigation, music streaming, and a companion smartphone app — a feature set more common in consumer electronics than in Indian scooters. The software-first philosophy became both a selling point and a liability: early MoveOS builds attracted criticism for bugs, and in early 2023 Ola recalled the S1 and S1 Pro series to replace front fork arms following safety concerns at no cost to owners.
A Gen 2 platform arrived in 2023 alongside new models in the S1 family, and the S1 Pro Gen 2 raised claimed range to 195 km and top speed to 120 km/h with an 8.5 kW mid-drive motor producing 58 Nm of torque. Gen 3 launched commercially in early 2025 with further refinements to the platform. By 2023 Ola Electric held approximately 30 percent of India's electric scooter market by volume, with the S1 Pro as the flagship that established the brand.
