NSU Typ 110 / 1200 History

Introduced in 1965, the Typ 110 was NSU's step into the lower end of the mid-size market, using a longer wheelbase and extended front overhang over the Prinz 1000 to open up the cabin and boot. Its 1085 cc air-cooled overhead-cam four produced 49 PS, rising to 1177 cc and 60 PS in the 110 SC from autumn 1966.

In January 1967 the model was renamed the NSU 1200 as NSU rationalised its naming (the Prinz prefix was dropped across the range). Approximately 74,000 Typ 110s were built through 1967, followed by around 256,000 NSU 1200s through December 1972, when Volkswagen wound down the rear-engined NSU range in favour of front-drive Audis.
