NIO ET5 History

NIO unveiled the ET5 at Nio Day on December 18, 2021 in Suzhou, aiming it squarely at the Tesla Model 3 and Xpeng P7. Customer deliveries in China began in September 2022 at a starting price of approximately RMB 328,000. The ET5 shares the NT 2.0 platform with the second-generation ES6 and benefits from the same suite of LiDAR-based intelligent driving hardware.

At 4,790 mm long with frameless windows, flush door handles, front air curtains, and a rear ducktail spoiler, the ET5 achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.24Cd — exceptionally low for a mid-size sedan. The dual-motor system produces 480 hp (358 kW) and 700 Nm, hitting 0–100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Battery options include 75 kWh (CLTC ~550 km), 100 kWh (CLTC ~700 km), and the 150 kWh semi-solid-state pack with a claimed CLTC range of 1,000 km.

A wagon variant, the ET5T (also called ET5 Touring), followed in 2023, giving the model a practical estate-body option — unusual for a Chinese premium electric brand — and expanding its appeal to European tastes.
