Morris 1100 / 1300 History

Launched on 15 August 1962, the Morris 1100 was the Morris-badged version of BMC's ADO16 — a roomy front-wheel-drive family car designed by Alec Issigonis with interconnected Hydrolastic fluid suspension by Alex Moulton. The same car was sold under a string of BMC badges (Austin, MG, Wolseley, Riley and Vanden Plas), and collectively the ADO16 was Britain's best-selling car for much of the 1960s.

A larger-engined 1300 joined the range later in the decade. The ADO16 family ran in Britain until 1974, with around 2.3 million built across all badges; the Morris-badged 1100 and 1300 saloons were discontinued in August 1971 as the Marina arrived, though the Morris 1300 Traveller estate carried on until 1973.
