Morgan Plus 8 History

The Plus 8 arrived in 1968, dropping Rover's light alloy 3.5-litre V8 into the traditional Morgan roadster. The result kept the classic ash-framed body and sliding-pillar front but transformed the performance — it was the fastest production Morgan yet — and its instant, enduring popularity is widely credited with keeping the company alive through more than three decades.

Closely associated with chairman Peter Morgan, the V8 car ran from 1968 to 2004 with displacement growing over the years as the Rover V8 evolved. After the original ended, Morgan revived the Plus 8 name from 2012 to 2018 on the bonded-aluminium Aero platform with a 4.8-litre BMW V8 — a modern car wearing the traditional Plus 8 identity. (A nine-car limited GTR special edition was produced in 2021 to celebrate the model's racing history.)
