The 1974 model year

Overview

The 1974 U.S. S-Class roster continued with the 450 SE and long-wheelbase 450 SEL, retaining their 4.5-liter fuel-injected V8 and three-speed automatic. Mercedes-Benz added a 280 SEL to the global W116 family in April 1974, but the U.S.-market table used here does not place that six-cylinder SEL in the 1974 U.S. roster.
