Maybach W5 History

Introduced in 1926, the W5 replaced the W3 with a significantly more powerful 7.0-litre inline-six engine producing around 120 hp, nearly doubling the output of its predecessor and placing Maybach among the fastest luxury tourers of the late 1920s.

Like the W3, the W5 was supplied as a rolling chassis to independent coachbuilders, who dressed it in bespoke bodywork for aristocratic and corporate customers across Europe. The W6 variant of 1931 shared the same drivetrain on a longer wheelbase for chauffeur-driven use.
