Marcos Mini Marcos History

The Mini Marcos was a minimalist fibreglass coupe built around the running gear and front subframe of the BMC Mini, with a glassfibre/GRP monocoque body-chassis and the Mini's transverse A-series engine and gearbox. Sold mainly as a kit, it was cheap, light, and quick for its size.

Its claim to fame came at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, where a Mini Marcos finished 15th overall — and was the only British car to finish the race that year, driven by Jean-Louis Marnat and Claude Ballot-Léna. The result made the little car a giant-killing cult favourite.

Marcos Engineering's original run ended in 1970, but the design long outlived many of the marque's larger models: it was revived in kit and component form by D&H Fibreglass Techniques (1974–81) and again by Marcos itself (1991–96), with later Heritage-era continuations after that.
