History
The LS marked a real attempt to make Lincoln competitive with European sport sedans. Built on Ford's rear-wheel-drive DEW98 platform — shared with the Jaguar S-Type and the eleventh-generation Ford Thunderbird — it offered a V6 (early on with a manual transmission) or a 3.9L V8.
Critics liked its balance and value: it was named Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 2000 and was an underdog rear-drive V8 sport sedan in an era when Lincoln was otherwise selling soft, front-drive luxury cars. It ran through the 2006 model year before being replaced in spirit by the Zephyr/MKZ.
