Lancia Stratos History

The Lancia Stratos HF was conceived from the outset as a pure rally car, designed by Bertone and approved by Lancia racing director Cesare Fiorio. Powered by a mid-mounted Ferrari Dino 2.4-litre V6 (Fiat owned both companies), the road car homologation run of approximately 492 examples was built between 1973 and 1975 to meet Group 4 requirements.

On the stages, the Stratos was dominant: it won the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers in 1974, 1975, and 1976 — three titles in its first three eligible seasons. Works rally versions produced around 280 hp from the Ferrari V6 in full tune. The homologation road cars offered 190 hp in standard trim. The Stratos remains one of the most iconic rally cars in history, celebrated for its wedge styling and raw competence.
