History

The Lada XRAY entered sales on 14 February 2016 as the company's first compact city crossover, built at the Izhevsk plant on the Renault-Nissan B platform. It used Renault and Nissan engines and components shared across the Alliance, giving it a modern engineering base unprecedented in Lada's history. An elevated XRAY Cross variant with extra body cladding and slightly greater ground clearance followed to target the growing Russian crossover market.

The XRAY was well received in Russia for its modern look and reasonable pricing, but its dependence on Western-sourced components proved its undoing: following international sanctions imposed after the February 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, AvtoVAZ was unable to maintain supply chains, and the XRAY was officially discontinued in September 2022 after approximately six years of production.
