History
The Lada Kalina entered production on 18 November 2004 as AvtoVAZ's first purpose-designed modern compact platform, moving beyond the adapted Samara and Zhiguli-derived architectures. The initial four-door sedan was joined by a five-door hatchback (2006) and station wagon (2007), giving the model real versatility.
A second generation with restyled body and improved interior debuted at the 2012 Moscow Motor Show, entering production in 2013. The Kalina sold primarily in the Russian domestic market, where it was a consistent volume seller until AvtoVAZ discontinued it in July 2018 to rationalise around the newer Granta and Vesta platforms.
