History

The Lada Granta entered mass sales in Russia on 1 December 2011, developed by AvtoVAZ with Renault input on the evolved Kalina platform. It was priced to be the most affordable new car in Russia and immediately resonated: the Granta was the best-selling car model in Russia from 2013 to 2015, a remarkable achievement for a domestic brand competing against global manufacturers.

AvtoVAZ expanded the Granta range with hatchback (2014), liftback, and estate variants over subsequent years. A second generation with updated styling, improved safety, and revised engines arrived in 2018 (sedan) and continued to expand. The Granta has remained Lada's volume anchor through the sanctions environment of the early 2020s, when AvtoVAZ adapted production to simpler specifications without some electronic components.
