History

The XE entered production in April 2015 as Jaguar's true successor to the X-Type — a rear-wheel-drive compact executive saloon built on a new aluminium-intensive architecture and aimed squarely at the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class.

It anchored the lower end of Jaguar's range until the brand's combustion wind-down; production ended in 2024. Its most extreme version, the limited XE SV Project 8, was a track-focused supercharged V8 special from Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations.
